The sign was created to inform the public about the history and restoration efforts surrounding the local fish ladder in Damariscotta, Maine. Historical photos were used to support references in the text. The original artwork is a watercolor painting (not done by me.) I acted as project art director, copywriter, selected and secured the historical photos, created the illustration for the Damariscotta Mills inset, and designed the support system. The completed 18"x36" signs were sealed in a five-sided Plexiglas® case, secured to an aluminum plate. The plate is welded to an aluminum I-beam, which fits over, and is bolted to a 4"x4" post in the ground. These signs are located at both the top and bottom of the fish ladder. Each spring during the fish run (May 15-30ish), thousands of people come to the fish ladder to view the spectacle. |

The Salt Bay in Damariscotta, Maine is an unusual estuarial system, in that it is very warm for being located in mid-coast Maine. Due to its location, it supports a variety of rare species of aquatic life, many not found as far North. These signs provide education to visitors to the Heritage Trail system. I acted as project art director, copywriter, researcher, and designed the support system. The completed 18"x36" signs were sealed in a five-sided Plexiglas® case, secured to an aluminum plate. The plate is welded to an aluminum I-beam, which fits over, and is bolted to a 4"x4" post in the ground. |
